Miitomo, Nintendo’s first mobile app that was made available to the Japanese public on March 17th has just recently hit the 1 million mark! Not too shabby for an app that was released a measly 4 days ago!
Miitomo is a social app that uses Nintendo’s custom character Mii’s as a way to communicate with your fellow friends. As you open the app you are first required to create your very own Mii the same way you did for the Wii, Wii U or 3DS. After you finished creating your profile, the system searches to see which of your Facebook friends is also using the app so they can be added as your Miitomo friends.
The Miis exchange a few words based on the information you each provide about yourself. There is also a store to change your Mii’s clothes using the in game currency. The concept of this app reminds me of the Nintendo title Tomadochi Life for the 3DS. Seeing as this was Nintendo’s first app and was only released in Japan (for now), for it to reach 1 million downloads is quite impressive. We can only wait and see what else is coming in the new line of mobile apps. A total of five smartphone games from Nintendo are supposed to launch by 2017. Stay tuned for more news on Nintendo app releases!
